Angela Merkel's recent book launch at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin has sparked a wave of discussions about her legacy as Germany's Chancellor.
Her memoir, titled "Freiheit" (Freedom), was unveiled amidst a theatrical setting, with Merkel reading excerpts to an audience eager to hear her reflections.
The book, co-authored with her former office manager Beate Baumann, delves into Merkel's political journey, from her childhood in East Germany to her tenure as Chancellor.
However, critics argue that the memoir lacks new revelations, with some suggesting it should have been titled "Feigheit" (Cowardice) to reflect Merkel's pragmatic yet visionless leadership style.
Despite the criticisms, Merkel maintains that her decisions were always honest and transparent, a sentiment she reiterated during the event.
The memoir has already been sold to over 30 countries, indicating a significant global interest in Merkel's narrative.
