Austria Rejects German Asylum Return Plan

Austria has firmly rejected Germany's proposal to return asylum seekers at the border, despite agreeing with stricter migration policies in principle.

The Austrian Interior Ministry stated that such actions would violate EU law, which prohibits the informal rejection of asylum seekers at borders.

Germany's ruling coalition of the SPD and Union parties had planned to implement border controls in coordination with neighboring countries.

However, Austria has instructed its police to report any unlawful entry denials by German authorities.

Meanwhile, Austria's new coalition government is also planning restrictive measures, including a temporary halt to family reunifications for protected individuals, mirroring similar steps proposed in Germany.
