In 2025, recipients of Germany's Bürgergeld will face a "Nullrunde," meaning no increase in their monthly payments, as announced by Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil.
This decision is based on a legal mechanism that adjusts the Bürgergeld according to inflation rates, which have recently dropped to 1.9%.
The Bürgergeld, which saw a significant 12% increase at the start of 2024, will remain at 563 euros per month for single adults.
The adjustment mechanism, supported by multiple political parties, ensures that the payments reflect the cost of living without arbitrary changes.
Despite criticism, Heil emphasized that the Bürgergeld is designed to cover the constitutional minimum for existence, not more.
The government also plans to tighten sanctions for those who refuse job center assistance, reinforcing the importance of cooperation in the welfare system.
