In a dramatic incident, a significant portion of the Carolabrücke in Dresden collapsed into the Elbe River during the night.
The collapse affected the pedestrian and bicycle paths, as well as the tram tracks, spanning approximately 100 meters.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as no trams were on the bridge at the time.
However, the incident has caused major disruptions, with the entire area cordoned off and traffic being rerouted.
The collapse also damaged two major district heating pipelines, leading to a city-wide heating outage and flooding parts of the Terrassenufer.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, which remains unknown.
The Carolabrücke is a crucial traffic artery in Dresden, and its closure is expected to impact daily commutes significantly.
