Jan Redmann, the CDU's leading candidate in Brandenburg, has been fined for riding an e-scooter under the influence of alcohol.
The Potsdam District Court issued a penalty of 8,000 euros, which Redmann accepted.
His driver's license has been suspended for six months.
Redmann, who had 1.3 per mille alcohol in his blood, publicly acknowledged his mistake, urging voters to focus on his political ideas rather than this incident.
The incident comes just a month before the Brandenburg state elections, where the CDU is competing closely with the SPD and AfD.
Redmann aims to succeed Dietmar Woidke as Minister-President, despite mixed public opinion on his candidacy.
