Christian Dürr, the former leader of the FDP parliamentary group, has announced his candidacy for the party's top position following the resignation of Christian Lindner.

Dürr aims to rejuvenate the party after its poor performance in the recent Bundestag elections, where it failed to secure parliamentary representation with just 4.3% of the vote.

In a video message, Dürr emphasized the need for a centrist party that champions individual freedom and economic liberty.

He is seen as a unifying figure capable of bridging divides within the party.

The FDP will decide on its new leadership at a party congress in May, with Dürr currently the only official candidate.
