A recent "Heat Check" by the German Environmental Aid (DUH) has revealed alarming findings about urban heat in Germany, particularly in cities like Frankfurt and Regensburg.
Frankfurt ranked poorly, with over 50% of its surfaces paved, leading to excessive heat and insufficient greenery.
It placed 19th among 190 cities assessed, with only Nürnberg performing worse among larger cities.
Meanwhile, Regensburg was identified as the third most sealed city in Germany, with 54% of its area covered in concrete and a low greenery volume of 1.95. The DUH emphasizes the urgent need for cities to increase green spaces to combat rising temperatures and improve livability.
Environmental advocates are calling for immediate action to halt the trend of urban sealing and promote more sustainable urban planning.
