A heated debate has erupted in Germany over proposed constitutional changes by the outgoing Bundestag.
The CDU/CSU and SPD aim to amend the constitution to loosen the debt brake for defense spending and create a €500 billion infrastructure fund.
However, the Left Party has filed an urgent appeal to the Federal Constitutional Court, arguing that such decisions should not be made by an outgoing parliament.
They claim this undermines the rights of newly elected members.
Bundestag President Bärbel Bas defended the move, stating the current parliament remains fully functional until the new one convenes.
The Greens, though heading to opposition, are supporting the changes to ensure climate and environmental considerations are included.
Critics warn of potential misuse of the massive fund, raising questions about financial transparency and constitutional integrity.
