The Christian Social Union (CSU) is strategically positioning itself for the upcoming 2025 Bundestag elections, with plans to secure key ministerial roles if the Union wins.
CSU leader Markus Söder has announced that Günther Felßner, President of the Bavarian Farmers' Association, is set to become the Federal Minister of Agriculture.
Felßner, also Vice President of the German Farmers' Association, is a prominent candidate on the CSU's list, although the new electoral law may limit his chances of entering parliament without a direct mandate.
Additionally, Alexander Dobrindt, leading the CSU list, is poised for a significant ministerial position.
The CSU's focus on agriculture aims to strengthen its appeal in rural areas, with Söder hoping Felßner's candidacy will attract more votes.
The final CSU candidate list will be confirmed on December 14.
