A fire involving an electric bus in a tunnel at Elmshorn station has led to significant disruptions in train services across northern Germany.

The incident, which occurred during a non-passenger journey, resulted in damage to crucial cables, causing a complete suspension of the rail line between Elmshorn and Neumünster.

Long-distance trains between Hamburg and Kiel, as well as Hamburg and Westerland, remain canceled, with similar disruptions affecting routes to Copenhagen.

The Deutsche Bahn has advised travelers to avoid non-essential journeys and has set up replacement bus services to mitigate the impact.

Repairs are ongoing, with expectations that normal service will resume by early next week.

Meanwhile, passengers are encouraged to use alternative routes and stay informed through railway staff on-site.
