Leaders from East German states gathered in Berlin to discuss strategies for boosting the region's political and economic standing.
Chaired by Thuringia's Mario Voigt, the conference emphasized the need for investment in research, reduced bureaucracy, and lower energy costs.
The leaders also called for stronger representation in the federal government, including a dedicated East German cabinet member.
With rising dissatisfaction among citizens and the AfD's growing influence, the leaders stressed the urgency of rebuilding trust through action.
Proposals included using a €500 billion infrastructure fund to address regional needs and ensuring fair distribution of leadership roles.
Voigt highlighted East Germany's potential as a hub for innovation and economic growth, aiming not just to catch up but to lead.
