The European Parliament has rejected a proposal from the EU Commission to ban smoking in outdoor areas frequented by children, such as playgrounds and swimming pools.

The proposal aimed to reduce the normalization of smoking among youth and address health concerns related to passive smoking.

Despite support from some pro-European factions, the resolution was not passed, leaving the decision to individual member states.

Health experts argue that such bans could decrease smoking rates and change public perception, but the EU's role is limited to recommendations, as health policy remains a national competence.
