German Finance Minister Christian Lindner and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann, both from the FDP party, have firmly rejected Defense Minister Boris Pistorius' proposal for a new military service model.
In a letter to Pistorius, they cited financial, economic, and legal concerns.
The FDP ministers argue that reintroducing mandatory military or civil service would be unrealistic and could lead to significant economic losses.
Instead, they suggest making the military a more attractive employer and strengthening the role of reservists.
Pistorius, however, dismissed their criticism, stating that the letter addressed issues not central to his proposal.
The debate highlights ongoing tensions within Germany's coalition government over military readiness and personnel recruitment.
