The German coalition government has reached a compromise on the 2025 federal budget after intense negotiations.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz defended the deal, stating it addresses key national tasks and Ukraine aid without domestic cutbacks.
However, the agreement faces criticism, particularly regarding defense spending.
The military budget will only increase by 1.2 billion euros, far less than the 6 billion requested by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
This has sparked concerns about Germany's ability to meet its NATO commitments and modernize its armed forces.
Opposition parties and military associations are calling for significant improvements during the parliamentary process, warning of potential security risks if the budget remains unchanged.
