The German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, has banned the far-right magazine 'Compact', sparking a debate on press freedom.
The ban, which includes raids on the magazine's offices and the seizure of assets, is based on the association law.
Faeser justified the action by calling 'Compact' a 'central mouthpiece of the right-wing extremist scene' that incites hatred against Jews, migrants, and parliamentary democracy.
The magazine's editor-in-chief, Jürgen Elsässer, a former left-wing activist who shifted to the far-right, has vowed to challenge the ban legally.
Critics argue the ban might infringe on press freedom, while supporters see it as a necessary step against extremism.
The case could potentially lead to a landmark legal decision on the balance between press freedom and combating extremism.
