Germans Work Half the Year for the State

According to the German Taxpayers Association, Germans work until July 11th this year just to pay their taxes and social contributions.

This date, dubbed 'Taxpayers' Remembrance Day', reveals that the average worker household pays 52.6% of their income to the state.

From each euro earned, only 47.4 cents remain after deductions.

Singles face an even higher burden at 53.6%.

While critics argue this calculation doesn't account for state benefits received, the association's president, Reiner Holznagel, calls for tax relief, especially for the middle class.

He suggests lowering VAT on daily necessities and aims to reduce the overall tax burden to below 50%.
