In response to a rise in knife-related incidents at train stations, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser is advocating for stricter knife regulations.
The proposed changes include limiting the public carrying of knives to blades no longer than six centimeters and imposing a complete ban on switchblades.
Recent statistics from the Federal Police reveal 1,012 knife-related offenses at German train stations from January 2023 to June 2024, with Hannover, Frankfurt, and Hamburg being the most affected.
A Forsa survey indicates strong public support for these measures, with 82% of Germans in favor of tightening knife laws.
The initiative has received cross-party backing, highlighting a national consensus on enhancing public safety.
