Germany Secures 2025 Transit Ticket Funding

Published: 2024-12-17

Germany's SPD, Greens, and Union parties have reached an agreement to secure funding for the Deutschlandticket in 2025. The ticket, which allows nationwide travel on local and regional transport, will see its monthly price rise from €49 to €58 starting next year.

This decision follows changes to the Regionalization Act, ensuring financial stability for the ticket and avoiding further price hikes.

However, the ticket's future beyond 2025 remains uncertain, with CDU leader Friedrich Merz predicting tough negotiations for long-term funding.

Currently, the federal government and states each contribute €1.5 billion annually to cover revenue losses.

Around 13 million people rely on the Deutschlandticket for affordable and convenient travel.
