Germany Tightens Rules on Citizen's Income

Published: 2024-11-02

The German Federal Employment Agency (BA) is intensifying its approach towards uncooperative recipients of citizen's income, following directives from the government.

This move is part of the "Growth Initiative" by the coalition government, aimed at enhancing employment readiness and cooperation among beneficiaries.

Under new guidelines, recipients who miss three consecutive appointments without valid reasons or refuse suitable job offers and integration measures, such as further training, can be mandated to participate in "one-euro jobs" for up to six months.

These jobs, which are not subject to social insurance, are intended to aid individuals in re-entering the workforce.

The initiative targets a small group of recipients who repeatedly refuse to engage with job centers.

The BA has also been advised to improve support for these individuals, ensuring better transition into regular employment.
