Germany's Jobless Rate Hits 6% in 2024

Published: 2025-01-03

Germany's unemployment rate rose to 6.0% in 2024, marking a 0.3 percentage point increase from the previous year.

The economic stagnation has left a significant impact, with 2.8 million people unemployed on average throughout the year.

December alone saw an increase of 33,000 unemployed individuals, bringing the total to 2.807 million.

Seasonal factors, such as the winter slowdown, contributed to this rise.

Additionally, the number of workers on short-time work schemes surged from 241,000 in 2023 to 320,000 in 2024. Experts warn that unemployment could exceed three million in 2025 if economic conditions do not improve.

Calls for reforms in labor policies and increased focus on worker training and integration are growing louder.
