Kubicki Calls for Lauterbach's Resignation

Published: 2024-08-09

In a heated political clash, Wolfgang Kubicki, Vice President of the German Bundestag and member of the FDP, has publicly called for the resignation of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.

Kubicki's demand follows the release of unredacted documents from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which he claims reveal significant mismanagement and misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The documents, made public by a journalist, suggest political influence over the RKI's pandemic assessments, allegedly orchestrated by Lauterbach's ministry to maintain public fear and justify strict measures.

Lauterbach, however, defends his actions, stating that the RKI's recommendations were independent and that the measures were necessary, given the high death toll in 2022. The controversy has sparked calls for a thorough parliamentary review of the pandemic response, with critics demanding transparency and accountability from the government.
