Germany's Left Party has seen a surge in membership following its split with Sahra Wagenknecht.
Since Wagenknecht announced her new party BSW in October, the Left Party has gained 7,640 new members.
Despite some departures, overall membership has grown from 50,251 to 52,127, a 3.7% increase.
Party leader Janine Wissler called this influx 'encouraging and motivating,' emphasizing the need to activate new members to renew the party and regain Bundestag representation in 2025. However, the Left Party has struggled in recent elections, securing only 2.7% of votes in the European elections, half its previous result.
This growth comes as a positive sign for a party that had 78,000 members in 2009 but has since declined.
