Christian Lindner, the leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), has ruled out any coalition with the Greens under a potential green chancellor.
In an interview, he stated, "More green, with a green chancellor and a greener government program, would not suit us.
" Lindner's comments come as the next federal election approaches, scheduled for September 28, 2025. Current polls suggest that a renewal of the traffic light coalition (SPD, Greens, FDP) is unlikely, with the FDP's support hovering between 4% and 6%.
Lindner emphasized that the FDP stands for individual freedom and respect for performance and property, asserting that the party will continue to oppose policies that lean left.
He also defended the party's stance on military spending, stating that the FDP has met NATO's 2% defense spending target for the first time in years.
