A recent survey reveals that Germans perceive CDU leader Friedrich Merz as more competent in economic matters than the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
According to the poll by Insa, 41% of respondents believe Merz is more capable in economic issues, compared to only 20% for Scholz.
Merz also leads in areas such as asylum and migration, and internal security.
Scholz, however, is seen as more sympathetic and scores better in social and environmental issues.
In a direct election scenario, 25% would vote for Merz, while 21% would choose Scholz, with a significant 48% preferring neither.
The CDU is experiencing its highest popularity in over three years, with 33% support, while the SPD has dropped to 14%.
