In a recent ARD summer interview, Omid Nouripour, co-leader of Germany's Green Party, described the current coalition government, known as the "traffic light coalition" of SPD, Greens, and FDP, as a transitional arrangement following Angela Merkel's era.
Nouripour expressed skepticism about the coalition's ability to overcome its internal disputes, which he claims overshadow its achievements, such as controlling energy prices.
He highlighted the coalition's struggles with advancing key initiatives like digitalization and infrastructure improvements, citing a "strange appetite" for conflict among the parties.
Meanwhile, SPD leader Saskia Esken, in a ZDF interview, acknowledged the coalition's challenges but affirmed Olaf Scholz as their candidate for the next chancellor.
Both leaders discussed potential collaborations with the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) at the state level, excluding any cooperation with the AfD.
