In response to the recent terror attack in Solingen, the black-green coalition government of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced a comprehensive security package.
This initiative, led by Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, aims to expand police powers and tighten deportation rules.
The attack, which occurred on August 23, resulted in three deaths and eight injuries, with the suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian, currently in custody.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The new measures include enhanced surveillance of potential extremists, improved data sharing among authorities, and increased use of artificial intelligence in investigations.
The package also strengthens the powers of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, allowing access to encrypted messaging services.
Wüst emphasized the need for action, stating, "We will expand the powers of our security agencies.
