Nursing home residents in Germany are facing a significant financial burden as care costs continue to rise.
As of July 1st, the average monthly out-of-pocket expense for the first year in a nursing home has reached €2,871, an increase of €211 since mid-2023. In Bavaria, the situation is even more dire, with costs soaring by €564 to €2,814 per month.
The surge is primarily attributed to higher personnel costs for nursing staff, increased energy and food prices.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach is considering implementing a cap on personal contributions and urging states to cover more investment costs.
Despite existing cost-control measures, the financial strain on care-dependent individuals and their families continues to grow, prompting calls for further relief ahead of the 2025 federal election.
