Paris Votes for 500 Car-Free Streets

Paris residents have voted to transform 500 streets into car-free, green pedestrian zones.

Despite a low voter turnout of just 4%, the majority supported the initiative, which aims to reduce pollution and adapt to climate change.

The plan will eliminate 10,000 parking spaces and require drivers to take alternative routes.

Implementation is expected to take three to four years, with 25 streets in each of the city's 20 districts being affected.

Critics argue the changes could harm businesses and complicate emergency services, while supporters see it as a step toward a greener, quieter city.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo views the vote as a clear signal of the city's desire for more sustainable urban living.
