In the upcoming regional elections in Germany's eastern states of Thuringia, Saxony, and Brandenburg, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and the newly formed Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) are gaining significant attention.
Recent polls suggest the AfD could become the strongest party in these regions, despite being classified as right-wing extremist by the domestic intelligence agency in some areas.
The BSW, seen as a potential coalition partner, is also gaining traction, particularly in eastern Germany.
Nationally, 68% of Germans oppose the AfD gaining governmental power, while 39% support the BSW as a governing party.
The political climate is marked by widespread unease, with 80% of Germans expressing concern over the country's current state.
Economic dissatisfaction is also rising, with a notable decline in the public's perception of their financial situation since September 2023.
