Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Marburg, Germany, to oppose a planned reading by Austrian far-right extremist Martin Sellner from his book "Remigration.
" The demonstration, organized by the city and a network against extremism, saw between 2,500 and 3,000 participants.
Protesters blocked access to the venue and set off smoke bombs, expressing their disapproval of Sellner's controversial views, which the Marburg mayor described as a threat to democracy and community values.
Sellner, who previously led the Identitarian Movement in Austria, has been known for advocating the forced removal of foreign nationals from the country.
His appearance at the protest in Saarbrücken, where he provocatively promoted his book, further fueled tensions, leading to a police investigation after allegations of him making a Nazi salute.
