Green Party politician Stefan Gelbhaar is demanding €1.7 million in damages from broadcaster RBB over false reporting that derailed his political career.

The reports, which included fabricated allegations of sexual misconduct, led to Gelbhaar withdrawing his candidacy for the Bundestag.

The most serious claims were attributed to a fictitious individual, "Anne K.

," whose identity was fabricated by a former Green Party member.

RBB has admitted to significant errors in its reporting and is currently investigating the matter.

Gelbhaar argues the false allegations cost him his Bundestag seat, as he would have secured a position through the Green Party's list.

RBB has called the compensation demand "unreasonable," while Gelbhaar has rejected their apology, stating it lacks proper accountability.
