Russia Warns Europe Over US Missile Deployment

Published: 2024-07-15

The Kremlin has issued a stark warning to European countries planning to host US medium-range missiles from 2026. Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesman, cautioned that European capitals could become targets for Russian missiles if such deployments occur.

The warning comes in response to a joint US-German announcement to station long-range US weapon systems in Germany.

Peskov stated, 'We have enough capacity to deter these missiles, but the potential victims are the capitals of these European countries.

' The planned deployment includes SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles, as well as hypersonic missiles under development.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz defended the decision, calling it 'a very good decision' that 'secures peace.

' The move aims to underscore US commitment to NATO and bolster deterrence against Russia.
