A ten-year-old girl has gone missing in the Elbe River in Hamburg-Blankenese, disappearing before her parents' eyes.
Emergency services have launched a large-scale search operation, which continued into the evening.
A spokesperson for the fire department stated, "We do not give up hope," and indicated that the search would last until around 8 PM.
The parents are being supported by crisis counselors.
The police were alerted shortly before 4 PM after reports of a child in danger of drowning.
Approximately 50 rescue workers are scouring the area around the accident site at Falkensteiner Ufer, with the search radius expanded to 400 to 500 meters due to the river's strong currents.
Rescue boats, divers, helicopters, drones, and sonar equipment are all being utilized in the effort to locate the girl.
