A slaughterhouse near Bremen, Germany, has been temporarily closed following allegations of severe animal cruelty.
The closure was ordered by the local veterinary office after receiving evidence from the animal rights organization Aninova.
Secretly recorded videos allegedly show sheep and cattle being subjected to extreme mistreatment, including being shocked with electric prods over a hundred times, kicked, beaten, and inadequately stunned before slaughter.
The Niedersachsen Ministry of Agriculture has condemned the actions and is pursuing legal action for potential violations of animal protection laws.
In response, the state is advocating for mandatory video surveillance in larger slaughterhouses to prevent such abuses.
The affected facility falls under this proposed regulation, which aims to enhance animal welfare standards across the industry.
