A recent Forsa survey reveals that only one-third of SPD members support Chancellor Olaf Scholz as their candidate for the upcoming 2025 federal elections.
The poll, conducted between July 8 and 12, shows that 33% of members favor Defense Minister Boris Pistorius as a potential candidate, while just 8% prefer Co-Party Leader Lars Klingbeil.
Scholz has consistently claimed his candidacy despite the SPD's declining popularity, with only 55% of members satisfied with his performance.
Additionally, 66% of respondents doubt that the SPD will regain its status as the strongest party in the next election, especially if CDU leader Friedrich Merz runs.
The survey reflects a growing discontent within the party, highlighting the challenges Scholz faces ahead of the elections.
