In a surprising move, the new Syrian leadership, led by the Islamist militia Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has decided not to deport supporters of former dictator Bashar al-Assad to Germany.
HTS leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani cited Germany's current political instability and chaotic infrastructure as reasons for the decision.
He pointed to issues such as a non-functional government, potential snap elections, and high living costs, including exorbitant prices at Christmas markets.
Al-Jolani emphasized that sending anyone to such a volatile environment would be inhumane.
This decision reflects the complex dynamics of global politics and humanitarian considerations.
