Tessa Ganserer, a prominent trans politician in Germany, has announced she will not seek re-election to the Bundestag.
Elected in 2021, Ganserer was one of the first trans women in the Bundestag, alongside Nyke Slawik.
Her decision comes after enduring significant "inhumane hate" not for her political views, but for her identity.
Despite the challenges, Ganserer emphasized that her time as an MP was enriching and that she inspired many with her work.
She clarified that her decision is not an escape from the harassment she faced, but a personal choice to explore new paths in life.
Ganserer previously served eight years in the Bavarian state parliament before her historic election to the Bundestag.
