A tragic incident unfolded at Blausteinsee in Eschweiler, North Rhine-Westphalia, where a six-year-old boy drowned on Monday evening.

The child, who was not a swimmer, reportedly went to wash his hands in the lake and accidentally fell into the water.

His parents lost sight of him briefly, prompting a large-scale search operation involving police, firefighters, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG), and the Technical Relief Agency (THW).

Despite the swift response, the boy was found lifeless in the water approximately two hours later.

Immediate resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The police have initiated a death investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

The boy's parents are receiving support from emergency counselors.
