Tragic Recovery from Sunken Ship "Verity

Published: 2024-08-31

In a tragic maritime incident, the coastal motor vessel "Verity" collided with the freighter "Polesie" in the North Sea's German Bight on October 24, 2023. The collision, which occurred near Helgoland, resulted in the sinking of the 91-meter-long "Verity," which was under the Isle of Man flag.

Of the seven crew members aboard, only two were rescued, while the captain was found deceased shortly after the incident.

Ten months later, a body was recovered from the ship's stern, which was recently lifted from 40 meters underwater using one of Europe's most powerful floating cranes, the Hebo Lift 10. The search continues for the three remaining missing crew members.

The "Polesie," significantly larger at 190 meters, remained afloat post-collision with all 22 crew members safe.

The wreckage of "Verity" poses a navigational hazard and is being carefully salvaged and disposed of in the Netherlands.
