The trial of Hanna S.
, a 30-year-old accused of leftist extremism, has commenced at the Munich Higher Regional Court.
Hanna S.
faces charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, and membership in a criminal organization.
The accusations stem from her alleged involvement in violent attacks on individuals identified as right-wing extremists during the "Day of Honor" in Budapest in February 2023. These attacks reportedly left three people severely injured.
Supporters of Hanna S.
filled the courtroom, chanting "You are not alone," while her defense argued that the charges of attempted murder are exaggerated and that the case is being unnecessarily elevated to a high-security trial.
The defense also criticized the prolonged pre-trial detention and the conditions of the trial, claiming they stigmatize the accused.
The court, however, emphasized that the choice of venue was due to security concerns and not a reflection of Hanna S.
's perceived threat to society.
The trial is expected to last several months.
