US Missile Plans in Germany Spark Debate

Published: 2024-07-21

The US plans to station long-range missiles in Germany by 2026, including Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers.

This decision has sparked a heated debate within Germany.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock defends the move, arguing it's necessary to deter Russian aggression.

However, SPD parliamentary leader Rolf Mützenich expresses concerns about the risk of unintended military escalation.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz insists the weapons are for deterrence and preventing attacks.

Meanwhile, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov suggests Moscow might consider putting its own nuclear missiles on alert in response.
