US to Station Long-Range Weapons in Germany

Published: 2024-07-11

The United States has announced plans to station long-range conventional weapons in Germany for the first time since the Cold War.

Starting in 2026, the US will deploy Tomahawk cruise missiles and other advanced weapons systems, capable of reaching deep into Russian territory.

This move aims to bolster NATO's deterrence capabilities against Russia.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius welcomed the decision, stating it would fill a significant capability gap in Europe.

The weapons, including SM-6 missiles and hypersonic weapons, will have ranges between 240 and 2,500 kilometers.

This decision comes in response to Russia's increased military activities and nuclear threats, marking a significant shift in European defense strategy.
