Germany is witnessing a worrying rise in ATM explosions, posing significant risks to nearby residents.
Berlin's Interior Senator Iris Spranger has highlighted the alarming increase in such incidents, with 39 explosions reported this year alone, up from just four in 2020. These attacks not only damage bank properties but also endanger lives due to the use of dangerous explosives.
In response, police have conducted extensive vehicle checks across the country, arresting 12 individuals, though none were linked to the ATM crimes.
Authorities are urging banks to enhance security measures, such as reinforced ATM casings and relocating machines to safer areas.
Despite a slight decline in some regions, the threat remains, with organized gangs, often from the Netherlands, practicing these crimes.
