Berlin Senator Faces Hostile Protest

Published: 2024-09-13

Berlin's Culture Senator Joe Chialo faced a hostile crowd during the reopening of the Center for Art and Urbanistics in Berlin-Moabit.

As he began his speech, around 40 demonstrators, many wearing Palestinian scarves, gathered and disrupted the event with banned slogans and insults.

The situation escalated when pyrotechnics were set off and a microphone stand was thrown, hitting a woman nearby.

Police intervened, separating the crowd from Chialo, who left the scene under police protection, unharmed.

The incident is under investigation for potential breaches of peace and other offenses, with nine individuals being scrutinized by the State Security Division.
