The Bochum Christmas market has been temporarily closed due to deliberate damage to mobile vehicle barriers.
These barriers, large water containers designed to block access routes, were found punctured, causing them to lose their water and effectiveness.
Over 70 containers, about two-thirds of the total, were affected.
The damage was first noticed by security personnel, and the police have since launched an investigation.
The market's reopening is uncertain as authorities, including the city, fire department, and police, work on a solution to restore safety.
The police are collecting evidence and seeking witnesses to understand the incident's background.
