The Stoppelmarkt in Vechta, one of the oldest and most popular folk festivals in Lower Saxony, has opened its doors to the public following a visit from Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir.
The event, which attracts around 800,000 visitors annually, began with a relatively calm atmosphere, according to local police.
However, as the night progressed, there were a few incidents typical of such large gatherings, including four cases of minor assault and two of sexual harassment.
Additionally, a 25-year-old man from Vechta was robbed, though he was not injured.
The festival, now in its 726th year, features over 500 exhibitors spread across a 160,000 square meter area.
The city of Vechta is also preparing to welcome Chancellor Olaf Scholz for a reception on Monday.
