CSD Parade Faces Extremist Threats

Published: 2024-08-12

In Bautzen, Saxony, the Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade faced significant challenges due to protests from right-wing extremist groups.

Despite the tense atmosphere, over 1,000 participants joined the parade, supported by a strong police presence to ensure safety.

The counter-demonstration, organized by groups like the "Jungen Nationaldemokraten" and "Freie Sachsen," attracted around 680 protesters.

Although the event concluded without major incidents, police reported several legal actions, including cases of incitement and use of banned symbols.

The planned CSD after-party was canceled due to security concerns, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by extremist groups.

Saxony's Justice Minister, Katja Meier, condemned the hate and emphasized the need for societal acceptance of queer communities.
