Günther Felßner, the CSU's candidate for Germany's Agriculture Minister, has withdrawn his candidacy following a controversial protest by animal rights activists.
The incident occurred on his farm, where activists from Animal Rebellion climbed onto his cattle barn, lit flares, and displayed banners opposing his nomination.
Felßner cited concerns for his family's safety, as his wife and an employee were present during the protest and felt threatened.
He stated he could not risk his family's well-being for the position.
The protest has sparked widespread condemnation across political lines, with leaders emphasizing that intimidation has no place in democracy.
Felßner's withdrawal leaves the CSU searching for a new candidate for the ministry, a key position in ongoing coalition negotiations.
