A tragic collision between a tanker truck and a tram in Ubstadt-Weiher, northern Baden-Württemberg, has claimed three lives and left several injured.

The accident occurred at an unguarded railway crossing on Landesstraße 552, where the tanker, carrying heating oil, and the tram burst into flames.

Emergency services, including over 60 firefighters and helicopters, worked tirelessly to control the fire and assist the victims.

Among the injured is the truck driver, who suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, with investigations ongoing to determine whether signal errors or human oversight played a role.

The railway line in the area has been closed, with replacement transport arranged.
