Dresden's 80-Year Reflection

Published: 2025-02-13

Eighty years after the devastating Allied bombings of Dresden during World War II, the city reflects on its past with a message of peace and reconciliation.

Between February 13 and 15, 1945, air raids destroyed much of Dresden’s historic center, claiming around 25,000 lives.

While the Nazi regime used the destruction for propaganda, modern commemorations focus on honest remembrance and learning from history.

Events include a human chain around the city, concerts, and a peace service, emphasizing unity against hate.

Leaders like Landtagspräsident Alexander Dierks highlight the importance of preserving peace and confronting the Nazi regime’s role in the war.

The day also serves as a reminder to resist the misuse of history by extremist groups.
